Gator Cases GL-Bass Reviews 5

I was looking to replace my cheapie gig bag with something that would offer impact protection (I have gotten clumsy loading my bass into my truck) and more storage for effects, cables, books, tuner, etc. I only had the gig bag for a month or so, and I already ran out of room for my extras that I desperately needed space. The guys at Danny D's in Webster Texas showed this to me. I bought mine for $65.99 + sales tax.

This case is quite different from other guitar and bass cases I have seen. It is covered in a lightweight ballistics nylon, and actually looks like a shotgun case. The looks are great. It has great zippered storage on the outside, with a semi rigid foam liner that takes a good impact and keeps the bass cozy. There are little cutouts on each side of the neck that are perfect for keeping my cables, picks, tuner, strap. The inside of the case is lined with a nice, soft fuzzy kind of felt that looks like it will baby the finish on my Bass. I can now carry all of my stuff in one case to and from jams with friends, and not forget anything. And the weight just can't be beat! This thing is as light as a decent quality gig bag!

My Standard P Bass Deluxe barely fits headstock to strap lug. With my quick release strap locks I simply cannot keep the strap on the bass and put it in the case. Also there is a limiter strap between the case halves that keeps it from flopping all the way open that gets in the way of the zipper. I am seriously thinking of cutting it out since I WANT my case to open all the way. (small nitpick however). The cloth pulls in close to where the screws hold the nylon to the shell, which makes the zipper travel somewhat tight. Not a big problem, but noticable. While I do like the ballistics nylon quite a bit, it picks up hair quite readily, especially dog hair. Labrador owners take note, keep a lint brush handy!

If the liner was eggcrate foam instead of molded to the bass I would say this is a top quality gun case. No joke. This thing is built to last, and has all the safety and protective features you would expect to protect a pair of $2,000 hunting rifles. The semi rigid foam is thick, and the liner material is well attached to the molded interior of the case. Hauling your bass around in an old pickup is now a fairly safe experience with this case!

It seems like this case was made specifically for the Fender / Squier P Bass models. Not sure it would fit a BC Rich or a J Bass, but, if you lots of storage space in a case that will offer good protection to its contents, you simply cannot beat the price, or the product. Simply put, I bought my case and showed up to jam with it holding my bass. We didn't get any play time in as my friends were gawking at the case. If this will fit your Bass BUY ONE!
